On the Children's Day this year, many kids from the quake-hit areas were invited to share their stories on TV. In most cases, they were asked to recall the terrible moments when the disaster happened, or to tell their sorrowful experience of losing family members and friends.

China Youth Daily carries a commentary saying that frequently inviting quake-affected children to such programs could actually hurt them, as it would affect their psychological reconstruction.

The article cited an orphan who survived the 1976 Tangshan Earthquake as an example. She was also frequently asked to recall her dreadful quake experience. As a result, she had nightmares and could not stop weeping.

The article goes on to say that people should make efforts to help the young quake victims get rid of the terrible memories as soon as possible. It may take years to reconstruct the quake-hit regions, and it may take decades for the victims to recover from their psychological trauma.

Therefore, people should think twice before they emotionally exploit the fragile and sensitive children
