學(xué)位服 cap and gown

學(xué)位服（academic dress/ costume）一般就稱為cap /kæp/ and gown /gaʊn/，即學(xué)位帽和學(xué)位袍。

其實(shí)學(xué)位服還有個(gè)部分叫hood（兜帽，坎肩），就是披在背后的那個(gè)垂布。

學(xué)位帽最常用的叫法是cap，又叫square academic cap，graduate cap。

不過，“學(xué)位帽”還有個(gè)有趣的說法：“托泥板”，mortarboard /'mɔ:təbɔ:d/。

好吧，確實(shí)有點(diǎn)像……

畢業(yè)典禮 commencement/ graduation ceremony

英式英語里，畢業(yè)典禮一般叫g(shù)raduation ceremony，畢業(yè)那天則是graduation day。

而在美國(guó)，畢業(yè)典禮則通常被稱作commencement ceremony，畢業(yè)那天除了叫g(shù)raduation day，也可以叫commencement day。

cap上那個(gè)穗穗就叫tassel /'tæs(ə)l/，流蘇 。

通常是校長(zhǎng)或系主任，會(huì)為每個(gè)degree candidate（學(xué)位候選人）turn the tassel（撥穗），象征著transition from candidate to graduate。

正確的撥穗姿勢(shì)，是從右到左，所以上臺(tái)接受撥穗禮之前，記得把穗穗先撥到右邊。

►英式英語里，本科和碩士論文都叫dissertation，博士論文叫thesis；

►而美式完全反過來，本科和碩士論文叫thesis，博士論文叫dissertation；

►paper可以指課程論文，或某個(gè)具體研究在會(huì)議或者期刊上發(fā)表的論文。如term paper, course paper, research paper。

►essay的含義較廣，既可指幾千字的短篇論文，也可以指散文或者雜文。
